About CAWA

Colorado Ag Water Alliance (CAWA) is comprised of agricultural leaders from across Colorado committed to the preservation of agriculture through the wise use of Colorado’s water resources.  Members represent major facets of production agriculture, as well as partner organizations such as the Colorado Water Institute, Colorado State University, Colorado Department of Agriculture, and the Colorado Water Conservation Board.


Vision

CAWA's goal is to empower Colorado agricultural producers to make the most informed and viable decisions regarding Colorado water.

 

Role in the Community

CAWA focuses on education efforts and information exchange, provides education to both agriculture and non-agriculture audiences, is an advocate for the agriculture sector, and identifies common ground between the participating organizations and other interested parties. CAWA's responsibilities include

  • Preserving Colorado agricultural water on a long-term basis and maintaining agriculture water as a beneficial use
  • Hosting educational meetings and events for the CAWA and other target audiences
  • Disseminating information regarding agriculture water

Membership

CAWA is a producer-driven organization that represents and serves Colorado agriculture’s water interests. Membership classifications include:

 

Voting Producer Member Organization:

An organization that represents agricultural producers and is a voting member in good standing of the Colorado Ag Council. Each Voting Producer Member Organization Representative shall be an agricultural producer (not an executive or staff) and is entitled to a single vote on any action taken by the CAWA, although there is no restriction to the number of representatives from that organization present at any meeting. Voting Producer Member Organization Representatives are eligible to serve as elected officers of the CAWA.

Voting Producer Member Organization

Supporting Non-voting Member

An organization that represents an industry or group of individuals in allied business, or related activities associated with production agriculture. Representatives of Supporting Non-voting Members are not eligible to vote, and they are not eligible to serve as an elected officer or to attend the executive session without approval of the current CAWA Chair. Supporting Non-voting members are encouraged to participate in all general meeting discussions, will receive notification of all general meetings and will be recognized as a supporting member to the Colorado Ag Water Alliance efforts. In addition, Supporting Non-voting members will receive discounts on any CAWA activities and/or publications as determined by the Voting Producer Membership.
